Dan Lanning Releases Video Confirming Return to Oregon Amid Alabama Rumors

Oregon coach Dan Lanning confirmed that he’s staying in Eugene following rumors and reports linking him as a candidate for the Alabama opening in the wake of Nick Saban’s retirement.

Lanning released a video from his personal account on X (formerly Twitter) confirming to the fan base that he’s not going anywhere. The beginning of the video was a recording of a team meeting to begin work on the 2024 season, where Lanning told his players, “The world has a lot of starters, but doesn’t have a lot of finishers.”

The video then cut away from the team meeting and turned into a hype video, which ended with the message “I’m not leaving” appearing on the screen and Lanning smoking a cigar.

Lanning previously squashed any links to the previously vacant Texas A&M job in mid-November, saying at the time, “Everything I want exists right here.”

And if Lanning isn’t leaving for the money at A&M, and isn’t leaving for a school with the tradition, support and championship culture of Alabama, Oregon might have gotten itself a good one who will be there for the long haul in the 37-year-old.

Lanning is 22–5 in his two seasons in Eugene, including victories in the Holiday and Fiesta Bowls.
