However, Hurley opted to stay at UConn, citing his commitment to the team and the pursuit of a third consecutive NCAA championship.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont expressed his delight at Hurley's decision, emphasizing the coach's importance to the state. Hurley met with Lakers officials, including owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka, before ultimately choosing to remain at UConn.
