Dan Burn quipped he is yet to get his suit measured ahead of the Carabao Cup final. In the post-match celebrations after Newcastle United booked their place at Wembley, the defender hilariously echoed comments from former Toon star Paul Gascoigne.
Representing the Magpies in a cup final is a fairytale story for any Geordie - and Burn is living the dream. Newcastle have the opportunity to end a 68-year wait without a domestic trophy next weekend.
Online discussion and pub talk has centred around the final since beating Southampton over a fortnight ago. Despite also fighting on the Champions League front, focusing on anything other than the cup final has proven difficult.
Speaking to NUFC TV, Burn admitted even the players have the Wembley showdown glued to the back of their minds. The Blyth-born defender also gasped when asked about arranging tickets, a hot topic among supporters in recent weeks.
“The suit has not been measured,” Burn joked. “I'm not sure we are wearing suits to be fair, but yeah, it's going to be a huge game.
“I think it’s only natural that it is in the back of your mind. We've got games that we've been really focused on. I was proud of the lads (during) the West Ham game because, after that cup game in midweek, I think it was quite hard to pick yourself up and get motivated.
“But yeah, it's gonna be a huge weekend. Even driving in, a guy pulled up by the traffic lights, pulled his window down and was chatting about it. I've had to be ruthless with tickets but I'm happy I have my family sorted.”
