Dan Ashworth has officially been formal approval by the Premier League to commence his role as Sporting Director at Newcastle United. The Magpies confirmed the arrival of Ashworth last week after finally agreeing a compensation package with Brighton & Hove Albion.
The former FA supremo left the South Coast club in February but United can now get down to work with Ashworth ahead of a busy summer transfer window. A statement from the club upon his appointment, read: “Newcastle United are delighted to announce that Dan Ashworth will become the club’s sporting director after an agreement was reached with Brighton & Hove Albion to release him from his current contractual obligations with immediate effect.
"The terms of this agreement will remain confidential between the clubs and are subject to Premier League approval. Newcastle United will issue further information following the relevant approval process."

And with the ‘relevant approval’ having now been granted, Ashworth will get to work straight away at St. James’ Park as he looks to replicate the success he had in previous roles at West Bromwich Albion, the FA and Brighton. Speaking to nufc.co.uk, Ashworth revealed his excitement at joining such a big club at a time when ambitions are high.
"Newcastle United is an incredible football club and I’m delighted to be joining at this very exciting time. Each time I’ve been to St. James’ Park in the past, I have been reminded of the club's long history and the unrivalled passion of its fan base.
“It is a huge football club with great potential, and I am incredibly positive about what we can collectively achieve. I’m excited to start work immediately and look forward to being part of a team that is helping the club to grow and achieve long-term success."
