A damning Scott McTominay stat has shown exactly why Manchester United are targeting a new midfielder in the summer.
United will be looking to improve their midfield at the end of the season when Erik ten Hag is appointed as the club's new manager. The Manchester Evening News understands that defensive midfield is a key priority for the next transfer window.
MEN Sport also believes that Leeds' Kalvin Phillips is considered one of United's top transfer targets with the club confident of being able to lure him away from their rivals. However, the Yorkshire side are keen to keep hold of their man and are said to be confident that nobody will reach their £60million price tag due to Phillips' injury issues this season.

West Ham's Declan Rice has also been targeted by United in the past and the Reds have been given fresh hope of signing the England international after he reportedly turned down another new contract offer from the Hammers. Whoever the Reds do end up signing in the summer, they will be hoping they can improve on this McTominay stat.
During Napoli's 6-1 demolition of Sassuolo in the Serie A on Saturday, their central midfielder Fabian Ruiz completed more passes in 77 minutes than McTominay had in the entire month of April. In the Premier League season in total, McTominay has a pass completion percentage of 84.8 per cent which is markedly down on Ruiz who is on 90.5 per cent in Serie A this campaign.
McTominay's passing woes were further highlighted on Thursday night against Chelsea. It took the Scot until the 84th minute of the midweek draw to complete a pass to one of his United teammates.
