Dame Sheila Hancock has claimed that she was “sacked” from Channel 4 ’s Celebrity Gogglebox in a new interview.
The 89-year-old actress appeared on the hit armchair expert show alongside friend Gyles Brandreth, who is still on the show alongside a rotating pairing of celeb guests.
Dame Sheila appeared in the 2019 six-parter of Celebrity Gogglebox and left Channel 4 viewers enamoured with her comical facial expressions and witty no-nonsense remarks.
Sheila has now told Radio 2 of the job that she “loved every minute of it” but then went on to say that she “got the sack” from the Channel 4 gig.
She continued: “They didn’t ask me back for some reason, I suppose because I was too rude about some of the things I saw.
“I, honest to God, had not seen most of the programmes they showed us – like all those where everyone was showing off their private parts.
“And I was deeply shocked, quite genuinely overwhelmed by the whole thing.”
Celebrity Gogglebox often changes who is on the sofas from one series to another, with most recently Denise Van Outen confirming she would no longer appear on the show alongside ex-fiance Eddie Boxshall.
The news came after Denise and Eddie split after seven years together, which saw them become fan favourites with Gogglebox viewers.
The 48-year-old announced that her good friend and pal Duncan James would be joining her on the famous sofa instead.
At the time, Duncan shared to his Instagram story: "Can't wait to start filming @c4gogglebox with my bestie @vanouten_denise."
Denise reposted the message from the Blue singer, confirming that her close pal will join her on the celebrity version of the Channel 4 show for the foreseeable future.
Radio presenter Roman Kemp appears on the show alongside dad Martin Kemp and recently opened up about why he agreed to appear on the show.
Speaking at the Grosvenor House as he collected two TRIC Awards for his radio work, Roman explained the moving reason behind his appearance on the popular Channel 4 show, saying: “Gogglebox I do because it's with my dad [Martin Kemp].
“Literally, the reason I chose Gogglebox is that I know that when I'm older and and when he's not here anymore, I can say to my kids and my grandkids 'this was the relationship I had with my dad.' So that's why I do it.”
