Olympic hero Dame Kelly Holmes has come out aged 52. She broke a 34-year silence to tell the world: “I’m gay.”

The superstar made the announcement in the Sunday Mirror to mark Pride month. Behind a beaming smile, Dame Kelly said she had been living a 'secret life' for decades.

She admitted: “There have been lots of dark times where I wished I could scream that I am gay – but I couldn’t.” She also revealed a number of key moments that led to coming out.
