Dame Edna Everage star and comedian Barry Humphries dies aged 89

Barry Humphries Edna Everage Sydney Glasgow St Vincent

Comedian and veteran entertainer Barry Humphries has died at the age of 89.

Best known for his iconic character Dame Edna Everage, his death was announced by David Faktor, a spokesperson for St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney where he was being treated.

Mr Faktor told the PA news agency: "I can confirm Barry Humphries passed away this evening Sydney time, around 7pm on Saturday evening (11am BST)."
