On Thursday evening, a devastating shootout occurred in Dallas, resulting in the death of one police officer and injuries to two others. The incident unfolded when an officer was found with a gunshot wound in his marked patrol car, prompting an officer-in-distress call.

Responding officers engaged in gunfire with a suspect at the scene, leading to two officers being shot during the exchange. The wounded officers, along with the officer from the patrol car, were swiftly transported to local hospitals. Regrettably, one officer succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening.

This tragic loss marks the 93rd law enforcement officer to have died in the line of duty this year, with 38 of those fatalities attributed to gunfire, as reported by the Officer Down Memorial Page.

The suspect fled the initial scene in a vehicle, initiating a pursuit by Dallas police officers that concluded in Lewisville, north of Dallas. Following a preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the suspect exited the vehicle armed with a long gun, prompting Dallas Police officers to open fire, resulting in the suspect's death at the scene.

In a poignant social media post, Chief Garcia simply wrote, 'No words.' As a mark of respect, flags at all Dallas municipal facilities will be flown at half-staff on Friday, honoring the fallen officer and the sacrifices made by law enforcement.
