The Dallas Cowboys are desperate to get things right for the 2023 season, as their Super Bowl drought continues to loom over the franchise.
The last time they made the big game was back in 1996, when they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 to lift the famous trophy. Last year they made it to the divisional round of the play-offs, but fell short against the San Francisco 49ers.
They've already applied their franchise tag to running-back Tony Pollard this off-season, and there's expected to be a lot of change within the organisation before the start of the new campaign. Here, Mirror NFL bring you all of the latest Cowboys news and rumours coming from Dallas.
Ezekiel Elliott to finally depart?
The Cowboys may be regretting the $90million six-year deal they offered to Ezekiel Elliott back in 2019, as his performances have deteriorated in recent seasons. Pollard has emerged as their new star running-back, and ESPN's Dan Graziano "would not be surprised" if they cut ties with Elliott this off-season.
Elliott still loves the Cowboys, and has even offered to take a pay-cut in order to stick around. But the Cowboys remain over their spending cap for the 2023 season, and it may be in their best interests to move him on.
However, it's unlikely that there will be too many teams willing to take on the remainder of his contract, leaving the Cowboys in a tough spot. Owner Jerry Jones is also fond of his running-back duo, but cap savings will have to come from somewhere.
TCU's Max Duggan holds talks with the Cowboys
The Cowboys are committed to Dak Prescott as their franchise quarterback, but with Cooper Rush set to depart, a back-up position will need to be filled. TCU's star quarterback Max Duggan has already thrown his hat into the ring, with remaining in Dallas his top priority.
Duggan told reporters that he visited with the Cowboys and would love to join the team. "I got to meet with them and just go over some stuff, get to know me, get to know them, go over some ball, just start building that relationship. I thought it was a good meeting," Duggan said.
"It’d be really exciting to be able to go learn obviously in Dallas with coach (Mike) McCarthy and learn under Dak and learn how to be a pro and everything he’s done to be successful… It would be special to stay home and be part of the Cowboys franchise."
Courtland Sutton tipped to bolster offense
The Cowboys may have a star wide receiver in CeeDee Lamb, but they're still lacking something following the departure of Amari Cooper. According to Pro Football Network, Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos could be a real option for the Cowboys, with Sean Payton's side open to a trade.
According to NBC's Matthew Berry, representatives from the Broncos were "quietly shopping" at the NFL combine, and although they won't force Sutton out, they jump at a decent trade. Sutton may not have reached the heights of his earlier seasons in recent years, but he could be a good option for the Cowboys.
Sutton's under contract for three more years, and a move could be the perfect 'splash' that their owner is looking for. A report from Pro Football Network read: "We all know Jerry Jones likes to make splashes, and though a swing for Sutton wouldn’t be a massive cannonball, it’ll certainly make enough waves to get Cowboys fans more enthused about the state of the pass-catching corps."
