COIMBATORE: A day after a dalit man, who was attacked by a gang in his house at Ponnakanni in Sulur, died in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday, several dalit outfits staged a sit-in protest in front of the hospital mortuary on Friday.
The victim, M Kesavan, 47, of Vinayagar Kovil Street at Ponnakanni, a labourer, was on the way home from work on his motorcycle on Monday, when he knocked down Mayilsamy, who was on a moped. Kesavan left the place in a hurry. Mayilsamy and his relatives barged into Kesavan’s house in the evening and attacked him with a wooden log. They also used a casteist slur against Kesavan.
