A Dalbeattie cycling enthusiast diagnosed with blood cancer will take on a charity challenge this weekend.
Kelly Seivwright is planning to ride 200 miles across Dumfries and Galloway on Sunday – the furthest she’s ridden in a single day.
But this is about more than a personal achievement.
Kelly, 53, is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for Blood Cancer UK.
She said: “My passion is riding my bike. It’s my happy place and I especially like cycling long distances. It’s something that makes me very, very happy.
“Unfortunately, last September I was diagnosed with cancer and I have a type of leukaemia.
“Me being a typical cyclist, my instant thought was if I was still going to be able to ride my bike! It then dawned on me that I’d just been diagnosed with cancer and it turned my world upside down.
“But I am still riding my bike and I decided to focus on something to help Blood Cancer UK who are a fantastic charity and do so much research. That’s how it all came about.
“The longest I have cycled in one day is 170 miles, so I thought I would do a double century.
