Dainik Jagran, India’s most-read newspaper, has again raised the spectre of a “planned conspiracy” of “love jihad” through what appears to be a misleading report from Uttar Pradesh on July 14.
On page 5 of its national edition on Thursday, the Hindi daily carried a report titled, “Bareilly mein saat maah mein 46 Hindu kishoriyon ko phansaya gaya, sabhi aaropit Muslim”. Loosely translated: 46 Hindu teenage girls trapped in Bareilly over seven months, all accused Muslim.
