Daily Record's Little Hero Samuel Bell has a little hero on the way

The Daily Record’s first ever Little Hero is going to have a little hero of his own.

Samuel Bell, who was born with total intestinal Hirschsprung disease - a serious bowel condition, has revealed he and his wife Liana are expecting a miracle baby boy who is due on July 15.

Doctors told Samuel, 24, who is fed through a tube into his heart and carries a lifesaving kit in a backpack, becoming a dad might not be feasible due to everything is body has been through.

But on Bonfire night social work student Liana, 23, told him she was pregnant and they have been in a state of blissful shock ever since.

Samuel, who picked up a Daily Record Little Hero award in 2004, said: “We are over the moon and feel truly blessed. I still can’t quite believe it.

“My parents were told when I was born I would probably not live past three months and here I am married and with a baby on the way. I am forever grateful for everything I have been gifted.

“Doctors said there was a high chance we wouldn’t be able to conceive due to all the antibiotics, X-Rays and treatments I have had over the years.

“We were expecting to have to go down the IVF route so finding out we were pregnant is pretty mindblowing. We can’t wait to meet our little boy. He is going to be so loved.”

The young warrior, from Knightswood, Glasgow, who has raised more than £100,000 for rare diseases through his charity Samuel Smiles, added: “Liana is now 15 weeks pregnant and a scan this week shows things are all going well.

“We won’t know until the baby is born whether he has inherited my condition but it doesn’t matter. He has us to look out for him and medicine has come on a long way since I was a baby.

“We surprised both our families on Christmas Day and they are as shocked and happy as we are. This baby really is a miracle for all of us.”
