Despite the best efforts of the team, and the walker's friends and passers-by, Dave died at the scene, Lancs Live reports.

Since his death, tributes have poured in for Dave. His friend has since set up a fundraiser to help cover the funeral costs.

The fundraiser, which has a goal of £7,000, was set up by Alexander Bethell. Posting a message on the GoFundMe, he said: "This weekend Dave had been away for a weekend in the Lakes with a few friends.

"He had a good night on Friday night having a sing and dance with a few of us, followed by a lovely Full English breakfast on Saturday morning.

"We were having a nice walk up a mountain on Saturday, the weather was lovely, Rushy was laughing and joking and telling us his conspiracy theories! Unfortunately, as we got close to the top Rushy dropped to the floor and he was unresponsive.

"Continuous attempts were made for an hour to keep him with us but he was sadly pronounced dead when air ambulance arrived.

"Dave died happy and he was doing something that he loved surrounded by his friends. Michelle, Dave’s brother, children, grandson and nephew's meant the world to him.

"He loved them all so much. He will leave this world with a lot of broken hearts. Everyone has a story about him, he always made people laugh even at the most inappropriate times.

"If possible we are asking everyone to make a donation to help Michelle and his family contribute to his funeral costs during this disastrous time for their family."

Tributes have also been paid to him on social media. Lots of people are shocked by his death, but say he will never be forgotten.

One of Dave's daughters, Becci Rushworth, posted: "No words can describe the devastating news we received on Saturday that our dad, partner, brother, grandad and uncle Dave Rushworth had suddenly passed away, doing something he loved at least.

"All I know is I would like to thank each and everyone for the overwhelming support we have received and to everyone involved on the day it means a lot we will be eternally grateful."

Gerrys Fishing posted: "It comes with tremendous sadness that we have heard about the recent passing of local angling legend and very good friend of ours Dave Rushworth, AKA Rushy.

"The local angling community owes this man a huge thankyou for being part of the reason the fishing Forum 'Angling Addicts' took off many years ago and provided knowledge and information about local fishing in Morecambe Bay.

"We would like to take this opportunity to give our deepest condolences to Dave's family and friends at this very difficult time. I'm sure you'll still find a great spot to fish up there mate, We'll have another crack at the Bass one day, You've still got me hooked on the old faithful Chug Bugs and I'll never forget the advice you gave me as a young lad regarding women! Rest Easy pal, Jack and the Gerry's Fishing Team."

Adam Michael added: "Forever be my fishing mentor Dave Rushworth you was such an amazing man! A great mentor in and out of work!! You will be missed by all who knew you and be forever remembered!! RIP mate! Gone to soon."
