Dad who couldn't hold premature daughter properly for four days recalls heartbreak of seeing other parents leave hospital with their babies

A dad who couldn't hold his daughter properly for the first four days of her life has spoken of the pain of seeing other parents leave hospital with their babies.

Leigh Davison's daughter Evelyn was born 12 weeks premature when his partner Sarah Oliver, 34, went into spontaneous labour in August 2021. Evelyn Davison, who was born very quick and weighed just 2lbs 10oz, was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for monitoring.

It soon became clear that Evelyn was suffering from a number of conditions, including holes in her heart and a bleed on her brain. And Leigh, 33, explained that it was difficult to avoid comparing other children's progress to Evelyn's, which caused a huge amount of anxiety for the couple.
