A man has fought back at his son's teacher who claimed "painting your nails is only for girls" by taking him to get a manicure. Christian Shearhod, from California, America, wanted to rewrite what his three-year-old son, Ashton, had learned in class, and instead teach him a valuable lesson about gender equality.
In a TikTok video, Christian, who is known as @mr.shearhod on the app, explained how Ashton came home "really upset" one day after hearing his teacher say he shouldn't paint his nails because he is a boy, not a girl. He said: "My son's teacher told him he shouldn't paint his nails... so today, I'm taking him to the nail shop."
Little Ashton is seen picking out a hot pink nail polish before asking the nail technician to paint it on both his finger and toe nails.
He is then seen with a big smile on his face, blowing on his now-pink nails to help them dry faster.
Commenting on the clip, one user said: "You guys are amazing parents, it's wonderful how happy your little boy is."
Another user added: "Gender equality works both ways. Loving this. My boys used to get teased for their long hair. Beautiful parenting."
A third user said: "This is amazing but I'd be having a talk with his teacher too. There was no need in the teacher saying this to that sweet boy.
However, Christian wanted to make it clear that there's no hard feelings between him and his son's teacher, saying she didn't mean to offend anybody.
In another video, he said: "My son's teacher did not know what me and my family's opinion on gender norms are and that's OK.
"She's not a psychic. I told her and we got on the same page and now the chapter is closed. Everything is good - and at the end of the day, it's just nail polish."
One user said: "Best dad ever. Best teacher ever!"
Another user added: "This guy has enough positive vibes for everyone, imagine a world where the majority of people viewed everything through his glasses."
One more user said: "You're an amazing human."
