Vomit, tears, bone-melting fatigue and a disregard for your own self-preservation. If you can cope with that, you might be able to cope with Marathon des Sables.
The challenge involves running through the desert the distance of approximately six marathons over six days. And at times, sandstorms mean you can see no further than a metre ahead.
But one father-of-two was inspired to do so in memory of a family touched by tragedy. Simon McWhirter, based in Bishopston, Swansea, took on the challenge in memory of Jack Price, an 18-year-old who lost his life in 2015, and whose family have turned that tragedy into a force for good, raising money to provide education, food and resources for under privileged kids and young adults in Bali.
