Dad killed by snake bite leaves heartbreaking final voice message to wife as he lay dying

A 40-year-old dad who died from a snake bite left a heartbreaking final voice message to his wife as he lay dying.

Sebastian Wicker worked as a land manager in Mozambique and was attacked two weeks ago while out on a safari.

His wife Amanda said that just six hours before dying, the man left her a voice message after being bitten by the snake, in which he told her how much he loved her.

The woman said she replied to the message but he did not see her answer, the Daily Record reports.

Amanda then received a phone call from one of his work colleagues who told her that her husband had died.

She explained: "In the message after the snake bite you can hear that he is losing consciousness.

"I sent him a message back but he didn't open it.

"One of his work colleagues phoned me in tears to tell me he had died. Then I just burst out crying. It is still such a shock.

"Sebastian had been attacked by buffalo in the past but a snake attack like this is almost unheard of. It is the first thing such a thing has happened out here in 30 years.

"The odds of being attacked by a snake are so slim."

Sebastian and his safari client were spotting buffalo at a termite mound when a snake attacked him. The reptiles usually live inside holes in mounds.

Amanda said her husband was probably bitten by a forest cobra or a black mamba, which are both venomous snakes commonly found in Africa.

His client had a dose of anti-venom with him, which Sebastian was given before being taken to Marromeu Hospital - a 45 minutes' drive away.

Once they arrived there, however, there was no more anti-venom and the man was taken by helicopter to Beira Private Hospital, but Amanda said it was too late by then.

The heartbroken woman explained: "He had a very painful death and had to be given morphine.

"He was vomiting severely and struggling to breathe at the end. His tongue was swollen and it was a horrible way to die.

"I can't imagine how he must have been suffering. It hurts to think about it even now."

Sebastian had been working in Africa and was missing his son Oskar growing up, Amanda said, so they had decided to move to Scotland to start a new chapter as a family.

He was due to move to Fort William in December but sadly died this month.
