Barrhead dad jailed after giving "two fingers up" to the court with SEVENTH driving ban

A notorious driving offender has been jailed after he was caught behind the wheel while banned for the SEVENTH time.

Kristopher Scott was caged after he was slammed for giving “a twos up” to the court when he admitted driving a car while disqualified.

The 31-year-old was banned from driving in January 2021 but on May 13, last year, the disgraced dad was caught driving his girlfriend’s Mini in Paisley’s Hawkhead Road.

And less than four months later, Scott was caught yet again behind the wheel – this time, in his girlfriend’s sporty BMW 3 series in August 2022.

On each occasion, Scott didn’t have insurance to be driving the cars.

Sheriff Suhkwinder Gill questioned why Scott’s girlfriend had two cars that he had access to – when he was subject to a lengthy driving ban.

Defence agent, Ms Taylor explained the family now only have one car as it was “too expensive” to insure both cars.

Procurator fiscal depute, Andrew Morrison told Paisley Sheriff Court: “On May 13, police were on mobile patrol on Hawkhead Road, Paisley, when their checks revealed that the Mini being driven by the accused was insured by a female with no males named on the policy.

“The vehicle was stopped and further checks confirmed the accused was a disqualified driver.”

Mr Morrison also explained how on August 21, last year police officers stopped Scott driving a BMW on Barrhead’s Main Street. He revealed: “Officers had reason to believe the male driving the BMW was a disqualified driver.

“Checks on the police database revealed that Scott was a banned driver and that he had no policy of insurance.”

Defence agent Ms Taylor explained how Scott had no family to rely upon and offered an explanation as to why he was driving on one of the occasions.

She said: “His child has severe complex needs. He has no family to rely upon and relies totally on his partner and her family.

“On this day, he was going to the shop to get something for his child. His partner wasn’t in and there was no one he could get support from. He understands he shouldn’t have been driving but he wanted to get something for his girl who has severe needs.

“He suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which has been diagnosed since he left the army.

“Although he offers an explanation for one of the incidents he understands he shouldn’t have been driving on either occasion and is completely remorseful for his actions.”

Sheriff Suhkwinder Gill slammed Scott, of Divernia Way, Barrhead, stating: “You have a horrendous record. You were caught driving a Mini by police and just four months later, you drive again.

“If that’s not a two fingers up to the court then I don’t know what is.

“This is your sixth and seventh driving ban conviction, there is no alternative to custody here.”

Sheriff Gill jailed Scott for a total of 11 months and banned him from driving for 59-and-a-half months.
