Up and down the country, teenagers and their parents have been scrambling to get hold of bottles of Prime Hydration, a hot new hydration drink produced by YouTube creators KSI and Logan Paul. Although the coveted beverage, which was released in Aldi on Thursday, December 29, retailed at just £2, youngsters are now willing to pay much more after it flew off the shelves.
Demand for the drink is so high, one eBay seller is currently flogging a single empty bottle for £50, while a set of nine empty bottles were advertised on Facebook Marketplace for £45. The majority of bottles are being sold for around £7 to £12, with the ice pop flavour appearing to be the most popular choice.
Amid the hype, with 'queues and riots' reportedly breaking out at Aldi, Spar, and Asda stores, Grimsby Live reporter Luke Green decided to see what all the fuss was about, with his own son having assured him the drink tasted 'really good'.
After fighting off 'countless teenagers and confused parents', Luke emerged from his shopping trip with a bottle each of Lemon Lime, Ice Pop and Blue Raspberry Prime drink, ready to put them to the test.
Lemon Lime
Given that he isn't the biggest fan of lemon-lime flavoured beverages, Luke admitted he hadn't exactly had high hopes for this one but was left 'pleasantly surprised'.
Luke said: "The flavour wasn't too sweet at all and didn't leave a horrible acidic aftertaste in your mouth that you sometimes get from citrus-flavoured drinks. It was actually really tasty with a nice spike of flavour from the fruits to make every sip taste like the actual ingredients."
Ice Pop
Remarking that this had the best name out of the three, Luke was put in mind of the juice found at the bottom of melted ice pops during warm childhood summers. Once again, he was also impressed with how well-balanced the flavour was, with the drink tasting very good without being 'overpowering'.
He wrote: "I'd have to say that this was by far my favourite. As well as having a great taste, it had a massive nostalgia factor for me, taking me back to being a kid out on my bike every day in the Summer."
Blue Raspberry
Luke immediately noted the liquid had a 'very striking blue', adding that 'this one was arguably the most vibrant of all the flavours you can get'. According to Luke, the nostalgic taste also put him in mind of the £1 blue raspberry bon bons he used to treat himself to from the paper shop on the way to school.
He added: "I have to say, I was once again impressed. The taste is scarily accurate and didn't leave a nasty sugary taste in my mouth at all.
"Coming second behind Ice Pop, I can sort of see why people are starting to make such a big deal of this, although I'm not sure it's quite as good as people are making it seem."
