Dad dropped son off at football and hours later he was dead

The heartbroken dad of a 17-year-old boy who was killed "almost instantly" when he was electrocuted told an inquest he was the "life and soul of the party".

Luke Bennett was struck by 11,000 volts when a metal pole he was holding above his head touched, or made close contact to, an overhead power line as he played with his mates at Euxton Villa FC in Chorley. Before the tragedy, Luke had spent the day, on March 6, 2021, having a kickabout with seven of his friends.

At around 6pm three of the boys - Luke, Lewis Geszke and Ben Wilcock - began "messing about" with a metal pole used to separate the subs bench from the pitch, Lancs Live reports.
