Dad accused of shaking newborn daughter to death and discarding her 'like a rag doll'

A father is on trial for murder accused of discarding his newborn baby daughter ''like a rag doll' after he violently shook her to death. Bolton Crown Court heard Darin Harvey, 25, from Rochdale is believed to have killed his daughter, Felicity May Harvey, who was only 20 days old, at their home in Heywood in January 2021.

It's reported the two-week-old baby was left with "catastrophic" injuries after she was allegedly ''deliberately shaken'' by Mr Harvey, who denies the charge. Prosecutors claim the man murdered his daughter shortly after his partner and the baby's mother Heather Connolly left their home, leaving her daughter in the trusted company of her father, Manchester Evening News reports.

Little Felicity-May had been born with a cleft palate which meant she needed ''an extra degree of care'' as her condition made it more difficult to feed her, prosecutor Tim Storrie KC told the court. Jurors heard that shortly after 2pm on January 8, 2021, Ms Connolly left the family's home in Stirling Place, Heywood.
