Dad, 26, found dead by devastated mum looked like he had 'just fallen asleep'

A family has been left devastated by the death of a 26-year-old dad discovered 'sitting on the bed' as if 'he'd just fallen asleep'.

Will Jones, from Wallasey, was found dead by his heartbroken mum Sharon in the bedroom of his King Street home at roughly 10pm on Thursday, June 2.

First responders tried to resuscitate him, but he was sadly pronounced dead at 10.26pm, with the cause of death still undetermined.

The young parent was not known to have any underlying health problems.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, family friend Paula Harwood, 44, said: “He was literally sitting on the bed in all of his clothes and he looked like he’d just fallen asleep, there was just no knowing. He didn’t have any known underlying health conditions. It’s just so sad.”

Will, a former student at The Oldershaw School in Liscard, had been staying with his mum and leaves behind a two-year-old daughter.

Paula, who works with Sharon at William Hill bookmakers, says Will’s death has impacted on the whole community.

She said: “Sharon is absolutely devastated. It could have been any one of us with children so it really cuts you to the bone that this has happened.

“Sharon is amazing, she’s a real firecracker with an absolute heart of gold. She’s worked for William Hill for more than 16 years and is much loved by everyone here.

!Everybody is just devastated and nobody has a bad word to say about Will.”

A fundraising appeal that was launched to cover funeral costs has already raised nearly £3,000, and Paula is keen to make Will's "final journey" as special as possible.

She said: "Initially, we set out to get £2,000. I thought that the most we’d get would be a few hundred but it’s really taken off.

"We’re also going to hold a race night to raise some funds. Lots of local businesses have donated prizes for it, so it’s great to see the community all pulling together. I’m beyond pleased with that.”

Despite the heart-breaking nature of Will's death, Paula added that Sharon is "completely overwhelmed at the kindness of family, friends and complete strangers."
