The Czech government led by populist billionaire Andrej Babiš faced a parliamentary no-confidence vote Tuesday over a ballooning budget deficit and questions about the prime minister’s conflict of interest.
The opposition parties that requested the vote condemned the draft 2027 budget deficit approved by the government at 386 billion koruna, or Czech crowns ($18 billion), the second largest in Czech history. This year’s deficit should reach 310 billion koruna.
