Cyriel Dessers tipped to fill Rangers boots in Premiership as Scottish football hit with age old snipe

New signing Cyriel Dessers has been tipped to take Scottish football by storm having cut his teeth in a "stronger" league in Italy.

The Nigeria striker penned a four-year deal at Rangers last week and arrives having scored ten goals in 32 games for Cremonese last season despite their relegation from Serie A. Dessers arrives as the latest addition to Michael Beale's forward line and will be hoping to team up with fellow new boys Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima, aiming to add some firepower to the ranks.

Dessers was eligible to play for Belgium and Nigeria and chose the African nation after talks with the Super Eagles' former boss Gernot Rohr. He's only scored once for his country, but Garba Lawal - who played for Nigeria at two World Cups and is on the Nigerian FA's technical committee - believes Dessers will thrive in Scottish football.

The former Roda, Levski Sofia and Elfsborg striker said: "It is a good move for Dessers as far as I am concerned because he’s coming to a league that is not as strong as Serie A in Italy. This will definitely give him the chance to prove his goalscoring prowess again.

"Dessers is a quality striker that knows how to bang in the goals and I think this is a great opportunity for him to prove his worth with Rangers. I am definitely expecting goals from him next season when the new season kicks off in Scotland.”
