A cyclist was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury following a crash involving a van on a busy road in Bolton. Emergency services, including an air ambulance were called to Chorley New Road (A673) following reports of the collision yesterday (October 17).
Police were called to the incident at around 4.20pm which happened on Chorley New Road close to the junction with Lostock Junction Lane. Rush hour delays were caused, diversions were put in place and an air ambulance landed nearby following the collision.

A spokesperson for GMP said: “At around 4:20pm yesterday afternoon (Monday 17 October 2022) on Chorley New Road, officers were called to a serious road traffic collision involving a van and a cyclist.
"The incident happened on Chorley New Road close to the junction with Lostock Junction Lane. Both involved were travelling towards Bolton.
"The cyclist was taken to hospital and has life threatening injuries.”
A spokesperson for NWAS said: "We were called at 16:09 to a RTC on Chorley New Road where a cyclist had been hit by a van. We sent various resources including an air ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.
"We took the patient, a male, to hospital with a serious head injury."
