Cyclist airlifted to hospital after being found seriously injured in road

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital after being found in the road, police report. Officers were alerted to a "report of concern for safety" after a cyclist was found in the road at 2.35pm on Wednesday, March 23.

The Welsh Air Ambulance was called to the scene on Chepstow Road, Llansoy to transport the man to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, while officers assisted with traffic management.

The cyclist is now receiving treatment in hospital for facial injuries, where police describe his injuries as "serious but not life threatening". Gwent Police have appealed for any witnesses or footage that can help with their investigation to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We received a report of a concern for safety after a cyclist was found in Chepstow Road, Llansoy at around 2.35pm on Wednesday 23 March. Officers attended to assist with traffic management and a 53-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff by Wales Air Ambulance.

"We’re appealing with anyone with information to speak to us, especially around with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 2.15pm and 2.45pm on Wednesday 23 March. Anyone with details can call us on 101 or send us a direct message on social media, quoting log reference 2200095832."
