Developer CD Projekt Red just surprised its fans by announcing a new patch that is coming to Cyberpunk 2077 that will add new features and introduce changes.

The studio has been thought to have moved on from the game and shifted its focus onto other projects, such as The Witcher 4. CD Projekt Red is expected to reveal what will be included in the upcoming patch, known as Update 2.2, on Dec. 10, 2024.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2

The date is particularly noteworthy because it is Cyberpunk 2077's four-year anniversary since it was released. Global community director Marcin Momot said on social media that the team behind the game still has "some gas in the tank."

That's all that fans know about the new update for now, and CD Projekt Red has so far only teased the upcoming patch. The studio said that it was going to release some pretty big things and said, "Get ready, chooms! It's gonna be?" according to IGN.

What fans of the game do know right now is that the developer currently has no plans to release a PlayStation 5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077. There are also no known plans to add a New Game+ mode to the game.

Momot also confirmed in another social media post that there were a lot of questions on whether or not the game would get PS5 Pro support and NG+. He simply answered them with a resounding no.

A Surprise Patch

The believed last major content to Cyberpunk 2077 was released around this time one year ago. Some fans reacted to the announcement of the new update with both bewilderment and excitement, Games Radar said.

Momot also noted that they have a lot of cool stuff planned out for the game and will talk more about it during an upcoming stream. He then extended his appreciation to fans for their patience regarding the matter.

What makes Update 2.2 even more of a surprise is that CD Projekt Red announced in May 2024 that no developers were working on the 2020 game. They were instead transferred over to Project Polaris, which is the latest entry in The Witcher franchise, and other projects.

Another notable news for the studio is that Project Polaris has already entered full production. This which is a major milestone for any game.

It was reported that The Witcher 4 has around 400 people working on it, which equates to roughly 61% of the entire company, according to Insider Gaming.
