The release of the new video game Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed.

The new release date of 10 December means Cyberpunk 2077’s launch will no longer coincide with the release of the next-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

CD Projekt Red announced the news on Twitter in a statement, which referenced the difficulty of shipping the game across nine distinct consoles and two hardware generations.

It is set to be released on current-gen consoles including PS4, Xbox One and PC, as well as the forthcoming Xbox Series X and PS5.

Cyberpunk 2077 stars Keanu Reeves, and takes place in a sprawling futuristic dystopia. It is developed by CD Projekt Red, the team behind the critically adored The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.

“The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 version of it,” wrote CD Projekt co-founders Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski.

“We're aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do,” they continued.

Cyberpunk 2077 was originally set to be released on 16 April, before being pushed to 17 September and then 19 November, before this final delay.
