Cybercriminals target Portuguese citizens with fake confidentiality agreements in PM’s name

The office of the prime minister, Luís Montenegro, issued a warning on Thursday night about an attempted fraud using the prime minister's name.

In a statement, the prime minister's office says that several people are being contacted by email and WhatsApp message, asking them to fill in a confidentiality agreement in the name of Luís Montenegro.

The government says that a complaint has already been lodged with the competent authorities.

These kinds of cybercrime campaigns, focused on phishing, have been on the rise and, for that reason, the National Cybercrime and Technological Crime Unit (UNC3T) of the Judicial Police has issued several warnings to citizens. Criminals often use fraudulent SMS messages and emails, featuring logos and templates that closely resemble official ones, to steal personal and banking data.
