A powercut briefly left thousands of homes in South Wales without electricity in the early hours of Monday morning. At one stage, more that 3,500 properties were affected.
But by 4am Western Power Distribution (WPD) said it had restored power to 2,839 properties. However, it said that 736 properties were still without electricity in the Cwmbran area. WDP said it hoped to have power restored by 5.30am, but the incident appeared to have been resolved by 4.30am.
WDP said the outage was due to a fault on its high voltage network and that it was "working hard to resolve" the issue. WDP high voltage incidents "tend to be larger, affecting the wider area and could mean your neighbours are off supply too", say WDP.
In statement on its website, WDP said: "We are aware of this power cut incident which was raised at 3.50am this morning and our engineers are working to get the power returned as quickly as possible.
"We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you."
