An unlikely beachgoer caught the attention of those looking to soak up some sun in north Wales.
Visitors to Abersoch Main Beach were stunned to see an unusual pet being taken for a stroll on the sand.
A couple of sun seekers headed to the coast with their pet lamb in tow, with the man and woman who brought it also having a pet dog with them.
Gwynedd is one of the priciest parts of north Wales but while costly yachts and jet skis idled offshore, the lamb stole the show as it sauntered onto the sand.
Astonished sunbathers were not quite sure what to make of it. North Wales Live reported Chris Chetwood sharing a photo on social media saying: “Thought I’d seen it all until today.”
Another disbelieving visitor wondered if the image had been “photosheeped” but all were happy to share Abersoch's popular beach with the “cute” lamb.
The couple’s dog was on a lead but the lamb was not - presumably the rules on beach access do not cover farm animals.
They perched on the sand for a while, drank in the views and perhaps checked out the local real estate: last week one of the local beach huts went on the market with an eye-watering price tag of £250,000.
In conversation with the couple, one beachgoer learned the lamb was an orphan and was “well looked after”.
Another said his wife had spotted the couple carrying their lamb from the beach car park.
She later told her husband what she’d seen. “I thought she had lost the plot!” he said.
One regular suggested it wasn’t the lamb’s first visit to the Llyn Peninsula beach.
“Nice to see Mary on the beach again,” she said. The nursery rhyme “Mary and Her Little Lamb” was at one time thought to have been based on the adventures of a Welsh schoolgirl, although it later emerged that it had been penned in the United States.
