A customer has blasted a pub on Tripadvisor in a scathing review after they were charged over £100 for four drinks. The patron on the pub, who wished to remain anonymous, left the bar with a hefty bill and labeled it as being “more expensive than drinks in Mayfair”.
They claimed they were sent a parking fine after their visit to Ego at The Forest in Bromsgrove earlier this month, despite logging in when they arrived. To compound their miserable experience when they contacted the parking company they were “absolutely no help”. They ended their review saying they won’t be returning to Ego at The Forest again.
Ego at The Forest, in the Lickey End area, has a 4 rating on Tripadvisor - with more than 1,000 independent reviews. It was even awarded a Travellers’ Choice Award in 2021, according to Birmingham Live.
One recent review said the “atmosphere was great, good value for money”. While another said they had a “great night” and would “highly recommend”.
But this particular reviewer left a one ‘terrible’ rating after their visit earlier this month. His review’s headline simply said: “More expensive than drinks in Mayfair!!!”
The review in full said: “Four drinks £105. Really. Received a parking fine from Ego today. Even though I know I logged in.
“I have debit on my credit card to prove I ordered drinks and I was there. Disgrace. Never set foot in again.
“Phoned parking company. Absolutely no help. Pay or go to court to challenge the fine. No more business from me ever!!!! Appalling how this is done.”
But Maria the public relations manager at Ego at The Forest responded to the review - apologising for the disappointment. She also urged the reviewer to get in contact so they could help assist with the problem.
Her response said: “I’m sorry to hear about your disappointment with us, and I would like to personally assist you with making things right. Please get in touch via bromsgrove@egorestaurants.co.uk and start your email with 3568.”
Ego at The Forest, off Birmingham Road, has 1,094 independent traveller reviews on Tripadvisor - including 840 rated as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good. Cory said: “Food was lovely as always, amazing service from Nathan who went out of his way to make my friends birthday just that extra bit special. Would definitely come again!”
Another reviewer said: “Lovely restaurant, food good, waiter was so helpful and friendly (Nathan) he is a credit to the team. Atmosphere great, good value for money.”
While Al added: “Great service, great food, great offers. Probably one of the best restaurants visited in a long time.
“Discovered the restaurant when a vegetarian relative came to visit. Great choices for them and no complaints, staff went to great lengths to satisfying their needs, even offering a taster from a dish that she’d not had before, before placing the order.
“Cannot recommend this restaurant more highly, and will become a regular visitor trying all of the dishes on offer.”
