Curve Studios and Garden, a beloved establishment in the River Arts District of Asheville, is grappling with the aftermath of a devastating flood. Owner Pattiy Torno, who was preparing to celebrate the studio's 35th anniversary, shared her heartbreaking experience of losing both her business and her home.
Torno expressed a sense of resignation, acknowledging that Curve Studios will no longer exist as an entity. She emphasized the power of nature's call for her to move on, stating, 'Mother nature said it’s time to move on, so I’m gonna listen.'
Reflecting on the unexpected nature of the disaster, Torno highlighted the lack of preparation for such a catastrophic event. Despite the grim predictions, the severity of the situation still caught them off guard.
When questioned about government assistance, Torno revealed that the floodwaters had only receded recently, making external help inaccessible until now. She emphasized the resilience ingrained in creatives, noting that overcoming challenges is inherent in their DNA.
Looking towards an uncertain future, Torno remained optimistic about her financial stability. Grateful for her health, safety, and the companionship of her beloved pets, she expressed confidence in her ability to navigate the challenges ahead. 'I have my health, I have my life, my kitties and I got out safe. I’ll figure it out,' she affirmed.
