Curtis Main insists St Mirren only have themselves to blame for their Staggies setback.
The Buddies front man was in no mood to look for excuses as he reflected on his side’s defeat up north.
Ross County emerged 3-2 winners at the Global Energy Stadium to deny Saints the chance to move joint-third in the Premiership standings.
And Main admits dismal defending throughout the team proved costly as he accepted the Paisley outfit got exactly what they deserved.
When asked if he felt hard done by on Saturday, the 30-year-old replied: “No, not really.
“You can’t defend the way we did and expect to take something from games, especially away from home.
“Collectively, we’ve got to defend better as a unit from front to back.
“We’ve made a habit as well of conceding a goal then conceding another one not long after so that’s something we need to rectify.
“We have to be more solid both home and away – we can’t let that type of thing happen. It just takes all the momentum away from what we did in the first half.
“We were 2-1 up away from home – we were in a position where we don’t get beat.
“It’s as simple as that.”
Saints have enjoyed a sparkling start to the season – but know points are a must when St Johnstone visit the SMiSA Stadium on Wednesday night with Rangers in town at the weekend.
The top flight then shuts down for a month due to the World Cup in Qatar.
Main added: “We have to hold our hands up, go away and look at it and try and correct as many issues as we can before Wednesday night.
“I just think we need to be more streetwise. If we concede a goal, we focus on not conceding again in the next five minutes and work our way back into the game.
“A couple of times we haven’t done that so that’s something we need to get better at.
“We will go through the positives and negatives as always.
“We have a big game on Wednesday night and we will look to get back to winning ways at home.”
