LUDHIANA: With the Covid situation improving in Ludhiana, the district administration has decided to hold cultural programmes during the district level Independence Day function this year at Guru Nanak stadium.
Chairing a meeting at Bachat Bhawan to assign the duties of various departments to celebrate the Independence Day in an unsurpassed manner, additional deputy commissioner (RD) Amit Kumar Panchal said that for last two years, this mega event was organized as low-key affair due to Covid-19 pandemic and cultural programmes were not part of the celebrations. He said that with the Covid situation turning normal, these cultural items would be a part of district level Independence Day event this year.
He asked the education department to ensure cultural items including songs, folk dance or choreography and others to be presented on August 15 are based on patriotic fervor and must depict rich cultural legacy of the country and Punjab. He said that each performance must ignite spirit of patriotism and nationalism amongst the audience in the stadium.
Panchal directed the municipal corporation to ensure proper cleanliness around the venue of the function, sprinkle water on roads leading to the stadium and ensure temporary urinal and mobile toilets for participants on August 15. Likewise, he asked the health department to depute sufficient number of medical teams during the event along with medicines and ambulances. He also directed the PSPCL to ensure supply of uninterrupted power during the celebrations. He also ordered the police department to make necessary arrangements for maintaining law and order during the event besides ensuring the facilities of parking and smooth movement of vehicles on the day.
ADC (UD) Anita Darshi, additional deputy commissioner (Khanna) Amarjeet Bains were also present at the meeting.
