Hit sandwich makers Bada Bing might be seeking new premises, but its replacement at Ancoats General Store opens this week.
And to celebrate, it’ll be giving away free sandwiches all day.
Mira specialises in the Neapolitan ‘cuzzetiello’, a standard on the Naples street food scene now hitting Manchester.
Historically, the cuzzetiello would be made by hollowing out the ‘heel’ of a loaf of bread, called the ‘cozetto’, and filling it full of ragu sauce, and often, fried meatballs.
In reality, this could be anything from a Genovese brisket stew with parmesan, a 12-hour cooked lamb shoulder, or a vegan aubergine parm.
Said Mike Swain of Mira: “We’re buzzing to be joining the Ancoats General Store family and can’t wait to introduce more people to the cuzzetiello.
“It's a food that people in Napoli seem proud to keep sacred and we like to reflect that by cooking mainly old school Neapolitan recipes, with our Wildcard specials added occasionally to mix things up.
“Ancoats feels like home to us, and considering it’s Manchester’s ‘Little Italy’, our new residency with General Store is a perfect fit. See you next Wednesday for sandwiches on us!”
Prior to the move to the General Store, Mira was making its sandwiches out of the Crown & Kettle pub, just a minute away from its new location, for most of the last year.
Like its predecessors Bada Bing and Herbivorous, it will have a three-month stint at the General Store.
The free sandwiches will be flowing from 8am on Wednesday (March 2) until 4pm, or until they run out, with Mira occupying the kitchen until June.
