A group of kayakers were left stunned by an up-close encounter with a pod of playful dolphins near Cullercoats.
And they managed to capture the magical moment the sea creatures leapt from the water right by their craft in this incredible video.
Phil Douglass spotted the tell-tale fins in the water around a mile offshore as he paddled out from the North Tyneside coast at 7.30 on Wednesday night. Reaching for his camera, he was able to record them jumping gracefully into the air from the waves.

Phil said: "[I] just hit lucky with the footage but [I'm] totally amazed by it!"
Phil shared the video on local dolphin-spotting group Newbiggin-by-the-Sea Dolphin Watch, where members were stunned by the impressive footage, with the video quickly racking up over 700 likes.
One person called it 'absolutely fantastic', while another said: "Amazing capture illustrating the sheer power of these animals."
