Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle player ratings: Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope star to net club record

Newcastle United had to settle for a draw at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace held firm in the Saturday night clash in the capital.

Chances came and went for United with Eddie Howe exhausting his attacking options without finding a breakthrough. The Toon boss started the game against Crystal Palace with Bruno Guimaraes in midfield - despite limping off against Fulham just six days ago.

It did not take Bruno long to get into the game and he even bounced away from a meaty challenge with Marc Guehi without requiring treatment. The South American star put in a solid shift to justify Howe's selection in the opening 45 minutes.

The Magpies had the better openings at Selhurst Park in the first half.

Here's the overall ratings from Selhurst Park.

Nick Pope 8

Barely tested in the first half but stayed focused and made a world class save to help grab a clean sheet and an important point.

Kieran Trippier 8

Did his bit with 16 crosses and constantly tested Palace. Man of the match.

Fabian Schar 7

Another decent shift as he helped preserve the shutout.

Sven Botman 7

Steady enough throughout. Sent one header wide.

Dan Burn 7

Continues to excel at left-back. One shot hammered at goal early on.

Sean Longstaff 8

Another energetic display winning tackles and interceptions all night.

Bruno Guimaraes 7

Breezed through with no problems after quickly shaking off an ankle problem.

Joe Willock 7

A busy shift down the left and caused Palace plenty of problems. Had 44 touches during 68 minutes display. Unlucky to get hooked but Tuesday is around the corner.

Joelinton 7

A solid display as he battled hard.

Miguel Almiron 6

Not his best night as chances came and went. Never recovered from early miss.

Callum Wilson 6

Battled hard but his wait for a goal continues.

Subs

Alexander Isak 6 (for Wilson 68)

One tame header.

Allan Saint-Maximin 7 (for Willock 68)

The pick of the subs.

Jacob Murphy (for Almiron 85)

*Subs must play 15 minutes to gain a mark.
