Crystal Palace set to make transfer approach for Bristol City striker Nottingham Forest wanted

Crystal Palace are keen to sign Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo.

Footall.london understands the Eagles are set to put forward a bid for the 22-year-old who recorded eight goals and 12 assists in 31 Championship games last season. The Sun on Sunday reports that the Ghana international could cost around £12million.

However, the Championship outfit rejected an approach from Nottingham Forest in January that fell short of their £20m valuation, reports Bristol Live. Semenyo’s contract is set to expire next summer but the Robins hold an option to extend his stay for another year.

After Christian Benteke’s departure to DC United, Palace are looking to strengthen their options up front. Sporting director Dougie Freedman is said to have been keeping a close eye on Semenyo’s progress for several years and the Eagles are now convinced he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

Semenyo is yet to feature for the Robins this season after picking up a shin injury whilst on international duty for Ghana in June. After spells out on loan to Bath City, Newport County, and Sunderland, Semenyo became a regular for Bristol City during the 2020/21season, making 44 appearances.

Delving into the Championship for upcoming talent has proved successful in the past for Palace. In recent years the Eagles have brought in the likes of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, and Will Hughes after impressing in the second-tier with QPR, Reading and Watford respectively. Although a signing from Chelsea, Marc Guehi attracted attention following his stint on loan with Swansea City in the Championship.

Palace have completed four summer transfer deals so far with the arrivals of Malcolm Ebiowei (Derby), Sam Johnstone (West Brom), Cheick Doucoure (Lens), and Chris Richards (Bayern Munich) to the first-team.
