'Cruel' behaviour slammed as man wakes up in hospital after night out

People have called for change after a young man went on a night out with friends and woke up in hospital.

Cameron Tunstall, from Woodchurch, Wirral had been out for a meal with his friends at Pattersons on Gradwell Street in the city centre on Friday, May 5. Following their meal, the 22-year-old and his friends went to various bars and clubs including the Red Lion, Electrick Warehouse and then Teddy's.

But Cameron's night ended in him being rushed to hospital with two bleeds on the brain. He said he can't remember what happened, but from his bank transactions he could see that he bought food from Subway and was likely heading to a taxi rank to go home.

It was reported that the 22-year-old was assaulted by two men and a woman outside Subway. Police were called to Bold Street just after 4.15am on Saturday, May 6, after Cameron was found unconscious on the ground.

Since hearing about the horrific attack, ECHO readers slammed the "cruel" behaviour as they called for change.

Michelle Slack said: "Terrible, can’t even be safe to have a night out, hope they catch those responsible hopefully CCTV and witnesses. Hope you get better soon."

Jason Head wrote: "Wow only went to get food for the night home then boom waking up in hospital, how cruel can some people get seriously no need."

Pauline Nibbs added: "What’s wrong with people these days, why can’t you just go out and enjoy yourself without beating and causing damage to others."

ECHO reader Julie Purser Sullivan, called for the Government to make a change, as she said: "There was a big thing few months ago about making sure women were safe to walk on the street, it needs to be everyone has to be safe. At this rate no one’s going to go out day or night it’s going to have an impact on businesses etc. The government need to do something and bring punishment age down."

Previously speaking to the ECHO, Cameron said this was not the first time he had been attacked on a night out. Last year a man hit him near Pop World, causing him to fall and bang his head.

That time he was rushed to hospital and had brain scans to check he had no internal bleeding or a head injury. But the scans revealed something else and were sent to the Walton Centre who confirmed Cameron had a brain tumour.

He added: "I have kind of come to terms with it now and I obviously don't have the best luck on a night out apparently. I am going to try and not go on them as frequently now, as I am obviously not having the best of luck."

Police have now appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who saw the offenders running away from the scene, to come forward. They also want to talk to taxi drivers from the nearby Hackney cab rank on Hanover Street, as they could have vital dashcam footage, which could help identify the two men who remain at large.

Drivers can upload dashcam footage to be viewed by police via the following link to the NICE website HERE.

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or message Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook, quoting reference 0152 of 6 May. You can also pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
