"Crucial" changes are planned for a Nottinghamshire village pub as it recovers from coronavirus. The owners of the Pear Tree on Nottingham Road, Keyworth, would be able to revamp its outside seating if new plans are approved by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
Following the removal of the current "poor-quality" pergola, two 'Manhattan style' pergolas would be placed on the side seating area. The aim of this is to have an enclosed area for customers which has a closed roof structure and can be used throughout the year.
In addition to the pergolas, there would be new cladding put on the entrance and the existing bifold doors would be replaced with glazed French doors and side windows. The property's owner, Star Pubs, said the venue was an "important local landmark and community meeting point", which was still recovering from the Covid pandemic.

It added the pub was an important part of the village, for which the "effective use of the external area" would be "crucial" in the future. In a planning document, IDA, on behalf of applicant Star Pubs, said: "The works have been carefully designed and detailed to respond to the site context, as well as the client’s brief.
"Following the removal of the current poor-quality pergola the proposed pergolas to the side seating area will provide an enclosed area for customers which, coupled with the open closed roof structure, can provide an all-year-round use. Timber cladding to the entrance will provide a fresh and appealing look to the street scene." The planning application is pending consideration from Rushcliffe Borough Council.
