A self-confessed “gardener” of a large cannabis farm has been jailed for two years.
Samir Lushka admitted to “watering the plants” after cannabis was found to be growing in four different rooms during a raid of a two-storey terraced house in Burford Road, Forest Fields.
More than 60 cannabis plants, a machete, and a crowbar with blood on it were all seized by officers during the raid.
Officers made the discovery after being alerted by a member of the public that they had heard banging and shouting coming from the property in the early hours of August 21, suggesting that there may have been a fight.
While nobody was inside the property during the search of the house, officers managed to trace the cannabis farm to Lushka, of Woodstock Avenue, Bobbers Mill, who admitted to being employed as a gardener to water the plants at the property.
Lushka, 25, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on January 25, where he was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to the production of cannabis and entering the UK without leave. He will be deported after completing his sentence.
Detective Sergeant Louise Bradford, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been able to secure a conviction in this case, which we feel sends out a strong message to anyone thinking of working in the production of drugs.
“Some people may think cannabis production is a victimless crime but quite frankly, they’re wrong, as the production of drugs can ruin lives and is often linked to organised crime.
“Cannabis production is not just illegal – it can also pose a very real risk to neighbouring properties. The combination of dangerous modifications to electrics and the intense heat generated by the specialist growing equipment poses a significant fire risk.
“Drugs and violence very often go hand-in-hand and this kind of behaviour will never be tolerated in our communities.”
