A RARE fossilised crocodile specimen is expected to sell for between £10,000-£15,000 when it goes under the hammer at a Scottish auction house today.
It forms part of McTear’s Cabinet of Curiosities Part I: Through Time & Space sale which begins at noon through the company’s website.
From 19th-century busts to a study of a brain, the weird and wonderful all come together for the sale, described as a fascinating journey through time and space across human civilisation, the animal kingdom and the heavens above.
Highlights include a Campo del Cielo meteorite, an Ancient Egyptian situla used in the cult of the dead, a proud Scottish golden eagle and an anatomical skull with remarkably good teeth.
The second part of the auction – the marine-themed From The Depths – takes place tomorrow.
