NEW DELHI: Pre-tournament favourites Brazil were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup again in the quarter-final stage, their fourth last 8 exit in the last five editions, as Croatia snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to reach the semi-finals in Qatar. Croatia defeated the five-time champions 4-2 on penalties after the extra time ended level at 1-1 at the Education City stadium.
After a goalless 90 minutes, Neymar put Brazil in the lead with a clinical finish in the stoppage time of the first half of the extra time. But substitute Bruno Petkovic took the match into the penalty shootout by scoring the equaliser for Croatia in the 117th minute.
