Cristiano Ronaldo tweet hints Paul Pogba could be back sooner than expected for Manchester United

Paul Pogba appears to have returned to Manchester United training sooner than expected.

Pogba posed alongside Tom Heaton, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones, Donny van de Beek, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo in a 'winning team' picture Ronaldo posted on his social media accounts.

Ronaldo and Rashford missed the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday through injury but Ronaldo's post would indicate both are in contention to return at Brentford on Wednesday.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick suggested Pogba would not be available again until late February yet the Frenchman's participation in a seven-a-side match would indicate he is nearing his return from a thigh injury.

"A week ago, I was told it would take another four or five weeks," Rangnick said at his press conference. "I've seen him this morning before the training session but currently I don't know how long it will take.

"He's not training with the team yet. As far as I know from the medical department, it will last another three weeks, four weeks and once he is then fit for training it does not necessarily mean he is also match-fit.

"It will probably take a couple of weeks before he is really able to compete for the first team."

Pogba has not played since the 2-2 draw at Atalanta on November 2 and his last domestic appearance was in the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool on October 24 when he was sent off.
