Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped a bombshell on Manchester United, telling the club it is time for him to leave.
Portugal international Ronaldo, 37, only made a fairytale return to Old Trafford last summer following very successful spells at Real Madrid and Juventus, but he is said to be considering his future now that the transfer window is open.
Man United endured a shocking campaign last season - their worst in Premier League history. The Red Devils recorded only 16 wins, scored 57 goals and picked up just 58 points as they finished sixth, a staggering 35 points behind title-winners Man City.
As first reported by The Times and confirmed by Mirror Football, Ronaldo is unhappy that he will not be playing in the Champions League next season, with United only qualifying for the Europa League - a competition he has never played in.
As a result, Ronaldo reportedly told the Old Trafford club that he wants to be allowed to leave should a suitable offer come in for him.
Ronaldo is confident he still has three or four years left in him at the very top level and wants to represent a team capable of winning trophies. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner still has the utmost respect for Man United, but seemingly doesn't want to be part of Erik ten Hag's rebuild, which could take years.
Ronaldo may find leaving United harder than anticipated, however, after the Red Devils recently warned him he's not going anywhere amid Chelsea's interest in him.
A source told Mirror Football: "Cristiano is not for sale. We want - and fully expect - him to be with us next season."
Ronaldo spoke out about his future back in June, where he insisted he was happy to remain at Old Trafford, despite the club's poor season.
"I was happy, of course, to be back in a club that really raised my career, so it was unbelievable, the feeling when I came back again. It was nice to feel the supporters - the happiness of them was great," said Ronaldo.
"I was and still am very happy to be here, and what I have to say to the fans is they are amazing. Even when we lost games, they always support us, they always are with us. The supporters are always in my heart and it's the people that we all should respect because they are always on our side.
"For me, the most important thing is to try to win the games and try to win some championship or some cup but I believe that Manchester will be where they belong. As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe."
On the appointment of Ten Hag, he added: "I know he did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he's an experienced coach but we need to give him time. Things need to change the way he wants.
"I hope we have success of course because if you have success all of Manchester are going to have success as well. So I wish him the best.
"We are happy and excited, not only the players but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let's believe that next year we're going to win trophies."
