Cristiano Ronaldo's new Man Utd celebration explained as fans confused by gesture

Cristiano Ronaldo showcased a brand new goal celebration in Manchester United's 3-2 win over Norwich on the weekend.

The Portugal international netted a hat-trick against the Canaries, saving the Red Devils, who squandered a 2-0 lead against the Premier League's basement dwellers, to secure all three points for his side. Ronaldo has struck up a strong bond with his compatriot Diogo Dalot at Old Trafford and the pair celebrated together after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner found the back of the net.

The goal celebration saw both players standing alongside each other and pumping both arms up and down in unison. The gesture caused some confusion among fans, but it has since been revealed what the duo were up to.

Manchester United's official Instagram account uploaded a short clip of the pair celebrating Ronaldo's goal and included three more pictures in the post.

The first shows Ronaldo working out on a Concept2 SkiErg, which targets a number of muscles in the arms. The second shows Dalot on the same machine and the final image captures the Man United stars both posing alongside it.

The duo have obviously struck up a friendship from working out together in the gym, on this particular piece of equipment, and have decided to pay homage to that on the pitch this weekend.

Man United has been something of a toxic place in recent weeks and fans will no doubt be pleased to see their talisman is still enjoying himself on the pitch.

Around two thousand Man United fans staged a protest against the Glazer family's ownership of the club ahead of the Norwich game, and things weren't much better inside the ground.

After United squandered their two-goal lead, fans began singing: "You're not fit to wear the shirt". Paul Pogba was also jeered as he made his way off the pitch, and responded by cupping his ears.
