Cristiano Ronaldo next club odds after Manchester United exit as Liverpool rivals tipped

Just moments after his departure from Manchester United was confirmed, speculation has already begun as to where Cristiano Ronaldo will be going next.

United announced on Tuesday evening that Ronaldo is to leave the club with immediate effect. The decision came less than a week after the forward’s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

During the two-part interview, the 37-year-old criticised the club and said he had 'no respect' for manager Erik ten Hag. Both parties stated that Ronaldo's exit was 'mutually agreed' in a statement.

And in odds released by Betfair in the minutes that followed United’s announcement, Liverpool were - perhaps unsurprisingly - nowhere to be found in the betting. The bookmaker has Sporting CP as the 3/1 favourites to sign the 37-year-old.

A move to Chelsea is priced at 4/1, while a switch to the USA to play in the MLS is 6/1. While Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League opponents, Real Madrid, are priced at 16/1 to secure the services of the Portugal international.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect," a United statement read.

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

"Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch."

Ronaldo released his own statement following the news, writing: “Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
